PROPERTIES OF CHLORINE DIOXIDE –
Chlorine Dioxide is an extremely effective, potent, fast acting bactericide that does not form toxic by- products, is 100% biodegradable, and leaves no residual toxicity. It is a broad spectrum biocide that is effective against all bacteria, viruses, mould, fungi, algae and spore formers such as Giardia and Cryptosporidium.
It even eliminates odors, and rapidly destroys sessile bacteria. With minimal contact time, it is highly effective against many pathogenic organisms including bacterial spores, MRSA, STAPH, C Diff, Legionella, Tuberculosis, Salmonella, E. Coli, Cryptosporidium and more. Most importantly, chlorine dioxide eradicates bio-film so that re-growth of harmful bacteria is significantly reduced.
Chlorine dioxide acts by first destroying the cell membrane, then the nucleus of the bacteria by chemical oxidation not chlorination. Because the organism is totally destroyed no resistant strains can develop which enables chlorine dioxide to be used on a continuous basis without the need for alternating biocides.

-
Does not hydrolyse in water to form hyperchlorous or hydrochloric acids.
-
Less corrosive than chlorine.
-
Highly soluble in water.
-
No hazardous residues.
